Wheel Bearing Question
So I went and had tires put on my 2003 Ford F150 SuperCrew today, and I wanted an alignment along with it. Well when I get back to pick up the truck they say they couldn't do the alignment because the drivers side wheel bearing, and drivers side lower ball joint were shot. Wouldn't there be some signs of a shot wheel bearing. Like make grinding type noises or something. I have not heard anything out of the ordinary coming from my truck. Lets here some feedback. It is possible that a wheel bearing could be defective and go un-noticed until inspected, though it's not an everyday occurrence. I agree with firefighter1416.....jack it up and see if there is any play in the wheel. You'll notice even the slightest little bit if there is any. As for the ball joint, it's not uncommon.

ball joints probably bad. with tire 2 inches off gound a-frame setting on a jack, pry up with a 2 x 4 under the tire. look for 1/8 inch movement or so in the ball joint, specifically lower. i dont believe the bearing story, they make noise when bad.
