I've been working on my truck since late August of last year. It's my 2nd year of auto service and I wanted to bring in none other than my pride and joy, 56, that has been sitting in the garage for a good 10 years. We have gotten a lot done in the past months and are gettign near starting her up . The engine has been completely rebuild and painted. We wanted it done right so we sent it to Napa and heres what they did: .030 bore, resurfaced block, milled the head, resurfaced flywheel, crack check, guides, intake/exhaust valves, dipped block, freeze plugs, new pistons, clutch kit, and complete engine kit. So all in all this is pretty much a new motor. It's also going to be my first vehicle and why not start out with no power steering and manual 3sp.
As for the engine we painted it Daytona Yellow
and before dropping it in
This was all done in our school shop class, and the painting in the auto body booth. I'll get some more photo's of the truck when i get a camera to take the pictures with.
Looks like you and your classmates are doing a fine job on that ole effie! I would imagine that at least parts of it will make the county fair this summer, I see a blue ribbon in your future.
Thanks. Right now im kinda at a stand still. I need to get the radiator to the shop and have them clean it out since it has some calcium buildup inside, and im waiting for a carb. As for today we sanded the inside cab floor and sprayed 3 cans of Dupli-color trunk spray in. Next step is to put the new gas tank in and rebuild my seat with a new black velour cover.
Long live the 223. I just put headers on mine ; next, a dual carb manifold. Just need another glass bowl carb. Every thing looks GREAT, keep us posted.
sanded the floor and sprayed in trunk spray ???? what did you do go back in time and buy a new one ??? no rust as far as i can see ... even for as good a shape as my 53 is in for an old work truck yer's makes mine look a little rough . i wish as do many we just had to sand and spray ya lucky dog .
Yea. Im surprised it's in such good shape for its year. When i get to the body part of the restoration there are only a few spots that need to be worked with. I got the gas tank in today, and a friend from the welding dept. mentioned doing the door panels and kick panels in diamond plate. I think thats a really neat idea.
you're off to an amazing start with that thing and It seems extremely well preserved. The interior IMHO could be updated with carpet and modern style upholstery but if your not doing a rod with tilt steering and flashy little wheel then maybe pass on the diamond plating.
Just my .02
