first i have a 94 f 150 with a 302 now its a daily driver that i wheel every sunday. i am currently running 35" goodyear mt/rs with 3:55 gears and i have just aquired another 44 for it with 4:10s with a dana trac lock in it. does anybody have any experiance with those? because i've heard that they wear out fast and then blow up while taking out your ring and pinion. so right now im too cheap and dont have the funds for a locker. i was wondering what if i were to weld the front up and only run with one hub locked? would i be okay to run that on the street (keeping in mind the only time itd be in 4x4 is during blizzard conditions and such of that nature)
old plow truck...been there, done that, although I did not do the welding...I bought it that way. It was a beast...with a posi rear and welded front you could not get stuck....anyway....My son-in law "forgot" to unlock one hub when the roadway was only partially covered....BANG....took out the end of the inner axle on a turn....be carefull
I have never heard of any front L/S blowing up, of any make except Auburn. Keep the L/S up front and forget welding the front unless you like to R&R the front axle shafts all the time. In the FWIW, if the clutches in a L/S (Dana, Ford) wear out, they do not "blow up", they just stop giving you the limited slip.
ya im prolly gonna just run it the way it is. if it blows up it blows up i guess i ll deal with it when/if that happens. as for r&r axle shafts all the time i already do. lol pretty good at it already maybe i should stop being so hard on it . . . . . . ya like that'll happen hehehe
