I heard through the grapevine that some of the trucks that are experiencing constant or multiple regens per day is a result of a back pressure sensor malfunction or possibly due to an exhaust leak between the two turbos. A fella I know was speaking to the service manager at the dealership where he bought the truck and that is what the service manager had told him.
I just thought I'd mention it in case no one else has heard of this or perhaps someone else has heard of this and can confirm it.
Don't know if this helps...I have a '08 250 FX4. It regens about every 100-200 miles while running 80 mile round-trip commutes, five days a week, in 50/50 interstate and city traffic. About once a tank full while on the open highway.
what are signs that your truck is in regen? Mine seems to idle high around 1100-1300 unless i depress the brake pedal. This seems to happen in all weather conditions (0-50 F). i wonder if I am having a regen a few times a day or stuck in regen. Thanks for any help... average 40 mi trip daily, mostly 55-65mph.
ya, I got alot of air escaping on the let off, most of the members say they do too, is that the leak we are listening for? if not, where. I always have a regen 2 times a week or so.
When mine is in regen the tail pipe is letting out white "smoke". It looks like I am killing mosquitos. Like gopedoligist said, it is short lived and over in a matter of seconds.
Mine got stuck in regen back in December. They reflashed it and now I haven't had an active regen that I could feel since. About 3,000 miles with no regen at all. Of course, I have sooty pipes and can't get them to replace the DPF, either...
I've seen the white cloud regen on the highway a few times. It lasts for about 30 sec or so, then the smoke clears. BUT - that doesn't mean the Regen is over, it's just the beginning. You can tell easily if you reset your MPG computer, it will be horrible MPG, then when Regen is done, it will immediately begin to get better mpg - fast. Usually takes 10 min or so. I say, mine's working fine.
My truck went into regen today (idle at 1100rpms) when accelorating the engine got louder (kinda like a deep spark knock) and was blowing white smoke. each time i noticed the sound during regen I have the white smoke. The frist time I was pulling a 5th/w, there was so much smoke I pulled over to check what was wrong. Anybody else notice this?

I would be willing to bet the engine was still cold! yes?
