Love this site. Did a search but cant find an exact match to my issue. I just picked up a nice 87 F250XL with a 460 in it. It has dual tanks. They guy I bought it from said to use rear tank only as front tank has problem. The strange thing is if I leave switch in truck on lower (rear) tank position the electric pump continues to operate even when key is out and power is off. I have to put switch up (front tank) posistion when I get out of truck.
When I am driving and I test switch by changing from rear tank to front tank the truck will die from no gas.
Does this sound like the switch or one of the 3 fuel pumps? Whey would it keep working with key off>?
would this be an easy fix>?
Also, The gauge reads well over full when full(yes I have read this is normal) however I use more then a third of tank before it gets below F on gauge.

It sounds like the switch is working, And the rear pump is ok. Since I don't have FI I'm not too familar with the 3 pump system. Wondering why it can get power key off. If the PO hasn't hacked the harness, I'd suspect a sticking relay.
There are others here with intimate knowledge of the wiring. I'm sure someone will chime in soon.

Senders are notoriously sketchy, mine does this too.

try testing the fuel pump relays sounds like it is stuckin the on position , if this is the case the reason it shuts off when you switch to the front tank is the front pump is not functioning
