i have to agree though that the mileage of the new trucks makes it unrealistic to get a diesel as a toy / daily driver. diesel is about $.50 more than gas around here. i have seen some v10 w/ 200k+ miles. you are right redford, it's personal choice. but for not towing on a daily basis, the v10 would be more practical & economical. i do not have a personal experience with the 5.4 superduty, but i was impressed with it in the f150.
If you just want to experiment then look for good deal on a used diesel that you could drive for 6 months and not lose money. Takes a little more effort but if you like it you got a great deal too!
Hey guys thanks for the information and advice. I'm going to the dealership this week to drive both trucks. That is if I can find a F250 Lariat CC 4x4 with a V10! I can't even find a dealer that stocks an XLT with a V10 locally. I guess if I decide to go with a V10 I will have to order it.
A really good truck shouldn't stink neither, but who are we to judge?
My diesel ('08) dosen't stink. no smell at all. (emissions took care of that).
I had a V10 before this one and it was a great truck. It didn't pull like the diesel, but had plenty of power. It sounds like either would be good for you. It should come down to price and personal preference at this point. Drive them both and just enjoy the new truck once you get it.
2008 F-250 Lariat 4x4 supercab with short bed: V10, Torqshift trans, 20' wheels&tires, 4.10:1 axle ratio, Dark stone Metallic with Pueblo Gold lower accent paint. Truck is at Fred Beans Ford Lincoln Mercury located in Doylestown, PA.
Eirickw, what is the price difference between gas and diesel in your area?
I live in Phoenix, Az and diesel fuel is currently $3.35 per gal, $.55 more than 87 octane. As for the truck itself I will be purchasing under the xplan, so the difference between a V10 and the PSD will be around $5200.
