Hello all, I'm new to this forum but have read a lot and have also learned a lot. I bought my first Ford almost 5 months ago now. 2003 F-250 V10 CC 4X4 shortbed 4.30LS with stock 2006 20" rims. I LOVE this truck by the way!!! When I bought the truck it had a very noticable lifter knock. previous owner said he heard the knock one day and checked the oil to find it was 4.5 quarts low. I took it to a mechanic before purchasing and he told me it would probably run another 100k miles the way it was. Since I've had it I change the oil every 1500 miles and used a quart of lucas to replace one of the6 quarts of 5-20. within two months the lifter knock was almost completely gone, and I've put around 15k miles on it since I bought it. Today I pulled into the driveway to hear the dreaded "rod knock" So it's time for a new motor. Forgive me for blabbering on but here is the reason for the post.
Should I buy a 2 valve set up or should I find the 3 vavle to replace? Any suggestions?
1. Cheaper. The 3V will cost more initally, has totally different packaging under the hood, you'll need a new PCM and that one probably won't work with your tranny.
As Ken says above, keep it apples to apples, stick with what you brought to the dance. The 2V is a very good motor, the 3v is only an improvement on what wasn't broke in the first place for the most part. The 2v, I believe will give you a few extra miles per tank full of over priced fuel. Not to mention that is some time in the future you want to sell it or trade it, some people feel a little stand-off-ish of motor swap conditions.
Just my two cents,
Also as we have seen, the exhaust system is totally different between the 2v and 3v. I'm sure to make the 3v run right, you would have to run the 3v exhaust.
Thanks for all the advice. I didn't realize there was that much different between the two. I was under the assumption that it was only the heads and intake. So i'll be sticking with the two valve.
Sent the truck north to alabama a few hours ago. I know some reliable people there that will rebuild the motor for me. Untill then I'm stuck driving this stinky loud diesel. 2005 350 CC DRW long bed 6.0 diesel.
Well after doing some serious research on this site I discovered a post that discussed the price of a reman engine at a Ford dealer. The post quoted $3,000 I was looking at paying $2,700 for a USED engine with a thirty day warranty then having someone else install it for $650.00 no warranty. To have the local stealer do it complete job with reman motor it's a total price of $4,400.00 with the 3yr/75K mile warranty on parts and labor. I would have NEVER checked the stealers price if it wouldn't have been for this site and the posters here. Thank you all so much!!
The money, headache, and worry this site has saved me in just a week of using it is well worth the supporter fee's. I'll be glad to support this site for a very long time and I encourage others to do the same!
Yeah, it is a great site. I have wanted to become a supporter for a long time, going on my 5th year here. However, paypal is the only way that I see to become a supporter and paypal sucks so bad, I would NEVER have another account with them. So until the day that FTE takes credit/debit cards, or has a physical address to snail money to, I remain a non supporter.

Thats a good price for a Reman with a warrenty. I thought it would cost more.
The whole V10 reman motor costs a tad more than a new turbo and a set of injectors for a diesel.

Ditto this post. Never used PlayPal, never will. Heard some bad stuff about it.
