flattops AND aussie's?

hello,
When i opt to throw in some KB flattop pistons as showed at Tims website, i should get 10 to 10.5 :1 compression with stock heads, right?

Is it then possible, in the future, to still put some aussie heads on them in order to get the CR still higher?
or would i be banging my valves then?

i'm looking for a way to increase CR significant now (on a budget) and MAYBE do some more in the future, without disassembling everything again.

Also, would the $150 KB hyperteutic flattops fit right into my engine? Same pin's etc.?

Can it be done by myself, being not an idiot with 2 left hands, but not a daytime car mechanic also?

thank you.

regards,

Stef.

Yes that will give you a boost in CR. What kind of fuel are you going to run?

99.9999% of the time i will run propane/butane 40/60, thats what's propane called in the netherlands.... In the winter, they turn the mixture in 60/40.... Not purely 100% prop. unfortunately..
but... it'll do.
For the other .0001%... Well, octane premium is here 93 (it's 98Ron, but measured differend as i understood correct, so it comes at 93..)

Re: Flattops and aussies

Hello Steph.
I would be cautious about raising the CR too high. My experience shows that at CR 10.8:1 with open-chamber 2V heads detonation is a real possibility, especially where the cam is inappropriately chosen. My initial cam in a 400 was fine because I had a longer exhaust duration: the next cam built cylinder pressure too high and too rapidly leading to detonation-even with pure propane, although not as pronounced as with propane/butane mixtures.
To be honest, you should aim for 10-10.5:1 CR with closed chamber 302 aussie heads, given the lack of access to straight propane. This should give you Steph a Lincoln with great bottom end and reasonable running costs. And with a good margin of safety should they stuff around with the percentages of propane/butane-not an uncommon situation here in AUS.
Hope this helps.
Craig

ok.
Isn't it better then to go with the flat tops alone, getting 9.5 to 9.8:1Cr and leave the heads stock?
It's the cheapest way i guess?

i was thinking 10 to 10.5:1 with the flattops, but that's with the special made high-dollar pistons.

Tip said that the $150 set pistons, KB flattops, would raise it to 9.5:1
When i add a little bit of deck milling, i come to 9.7-9.8:1 i guess?

I would try to keep the bottom end alone if nothing is wrong with it. i was goin to put a set of aussie heads on and call it a day, but then i sold the truck. . . which reminds me, i have a set of aussie's in the garage i dont need anymore.
