Hi all need some help here.
I put an 84 LTD 400 motor in my 79 f150 truck last year. So far it has been running great, and still does but, when checking the oil the yesterday i noticed a little antifreze, when i smelled the oil it smelled like gas. My question is would it be my head gasket, or my intake gasket, or could it be both? How would i be able to tell which head, or if it is the intake without a leak test, as i dont have or know anyone that has a leak tester. Any info would be of great help. Thanks in advance for any replies.

I think the 400 has a dry intake, no coolant passages, so my guess would be a head gasket. You could always pull your plugs and see if any show signs of foreign substances. Best test would probably be a compression check. If it's bad enuf of a leak you can pull the fill cap off the valve cover, squeeze the upper rad hose and you'll be able to hear the water squish I found that out the hard way on a tempo I use to own
