Just purchased a 2000 F250 V10 CC 2wd 50k and have been trying to figure out my HP. Most articles say a 2000 has 310HP, but when I punched in my VIN in the Ford VIN decoder is saying I have 265-275 Net Brake HP? It also shows a differance in HP ratings if the GVW is less than or greater than 11000lbs. It shows 265HP if its less and 310HP if its greater. My truck GVW is less than 11000lbs., so do I only have 265HP? And why would the GVW effect the HP output?
The pre-2000 V10 was only rated at 265 hp due to the non-pi heads... could be you still have a non-pi motor? It wouldn't surprise me if they used up the last of their non-pi heads on th lower GVW trucks...
I believe you can simply swap in pi heads if you wanted to... but somebody more knowledgeable than me should chime in on that!
Thanks for the input fellas, besides the VIN and the door jam code numbers is there any other code numbers or serial numbers where I can figure this out? And any more input on the non-pi heads would be helpful. Thanks
Crawled under the truck & found the 6.8 PI stamp on the passenger side head by the front exhaust port. So I'm assuming I have 310HP, don't know why the ford.fleet services VIN decoder says that it's 265HP when GVW is less than 11000lbs.? Hope that helps some other confused V10er's.
Diesels in vans get detuned alot! V-10s in vans only loose like 10 hp. DKF is right though, i think it is a cooling issue because the engine bays of those vans are soo small.
V-10 truckter, if it says u have PI heads, then u have the 310 hp. Even though u have a 00, it could of been a verrry late 00.
A PI head is a performanced improved cyl head. It basically lets more air into the engine. BTW, someone correct me if i am wrong about this. But thats what i read a PI head is.
