Intermittent hum from engine area
"First of all, it's not constant. It's intermittent. Sometimes it starts acting up within a minute after I start it. It may stop while driving, or it may keep it up until you brake - then it stops temporarily. There doesn't seem to be any relationship to anything! It may start and drive perfectly fine UNTIL I stop, THEN it may whine while stopped and discontinue at acceleration.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com

>It does seem to be coming from up front. As I mentioned before, I thought I had it tied to the compressor at one time, since it seemed to stop with the motor still running , but after shutting off the AC. That theory got shot down however, when I tried driving home without the AC on last summer. It seemed to be working just fine until I was about 1 1/2 miles from home when the whine reappeared.
It stalled one time on me as I stopped while it was whining. It's the only time that's happened, so I figure it was coincidental. At best attempt, let's say it sounds like an electronic high pitched hum. It never waivers in pitch and it's not anything like a belt screeching, etc.<o

>I tried checking TSB's and did discover a no-detailed description of "intermittent whining or high pitched hum" connected to TSB 14907 and/or TSB 14345. Those dealt with oil pressure guage problems showing no or low oil pressure. I discovered this info after I stored it this winter, but I don't remember seeing anything suspicious with the oil guage.
I'll check it when she comes out of storage the end of March."
Thanks everyone, any help is appreciated...
Ask if he has noticed anything unusual about the "feel" of the brake pedal & when he starts the engine (with the brake pedal pressed, it should drop a little when the engine is started & vacuum builds), if not he could have a small leak in the vacuum diaphragm thats noisey.
