driveline noise
Ok guys, heres the scoop...I have been hearing a howling noise for a few weeks now and it has gotten progressivly worse. Its definately not the tires. I can almost hear it over the PSD!! Today I raised the truck on four jack stands, put it in 4wd ran it at about 25-30mph, where the sound is most distinctive, I crawled under the truck and listened. I could hear the noise, but it didnt sound like the front end. I put it in 2wd and I could still hear the noise. I think I can rule out the rear end-that was my first impression. It kinda sounds like it is coming from either the driveshaft(???????) or the transfer case. I know my driveshaft carrier support is wasted, but would this give me a howling noise?? Also, the slip joint (correct term?) of the driveshaft is a little loose. Would this give me a noise as well??? Any advise is appriciated. Aaron.
