Cam swap. problems, now what to do?
Hello,
A week or 2 ago i started with the cam swap in my 400.
Yesterday i replaced the springs and retainers, and one fell and didn't find it. Today i dit, wanted to place it, but the valve was stuck on the retainer and went down as i pressed it (compressed air in the cilinder didn't help enough) so i put rope in the cilinder, and upped it. Worked great, really did, but couldn't get the rope out anymore...
tried to burn it, etc. didn't work, so, i lifted the heads.
Rope was all stuck in one giant ball...
fine.
Now, what to do?
I wanted, in time, replace my heads for aluminum Chi's or somethig like that.
Chi's are financially out of reach now. I have other things i have to pay for first.
Car has to get going soon again, as i have to get to work again in 2 weeks from now.
I was thinking that maybe aluminum aussie heads would be nice?
Anyone has any suggestions?
I run on propane 99.9999% of the time.
Looked at my cilinder walls, and i can actually see (lightly0 the crosshatch pattarn of the hohning once done (before my time, no clue when it was done)
Also the cilinder walls don't have a (how do you call that?) thickness at the top from rings moving in and stopping there. You can only feel it with your nails...
So, i thing the lower rotating part is in good shape.
Anybody got some suggestions on what to do now, and where to get those aluminum aussie heads?
How about pro-comp? Cheap, but good?
Any info is greatly appreciated!
Car is a '79 lincoln towncar with the 400 engine
thanks!
