The first thing you can do to improve your exhuast is replace the Y-pipe. The stock Y-pipe in the earlier gas engines (V-8 and V-10) are very restrictive.
It's also available in stainless. Just search "Ford Y Pipe" on ebay.
After that, it's just personal choice. One single 3 inch pipe is lighter (and cheaper) but weight isn't going to make a lot of difference in a 7000 pound truck.
the "TRUE-DUAL" exhaust's i've heard on the 10ers havn't sounded very good, BUT i've never installed one or messed with pipe diameter ect....
for a single tube exhaust, 3.5" pipe would be the MAX i'd run at all. i saw one set up running a 3" to 3.5" adapter off the Y pipe and full 3.5" back to the tire.........sounded real good!!
BUT i do know if you stay with a 3" main pipe, and a better Y pipe, you'll notice a good bit of difference! as for sound check out the clips on my site, it might help alittle on your descision!!
