Some ThumperRoo Parts stuff
I picked up the T-case today...and actually a bit more
The guy told me a 100 for the T-Case, or 150 for everything...
"Everything" included a 400 mated to the C-6 with the transfer case, only thing on the 400 I couldn't get was the PS pump...but, when I got it home I looked at the carb and it's a Holley 4bbl...here's the list of what Mortec says it is:
80508 750 (F)72,(R)plate 134-21 6.5 4160
Which should be just right for a 460...so now we have a carb...it looks like the baseplate on the carb has a slight crack in it from probably overtightening it when bolting it down, but...I'm pretty sure if I take it apart and bolt it hard down to a cast-iron intake, I can tig it up and it'll be fine.
Plus side is we now have a spare tranny for ThumpeRoo as well, Dan has assured me that it's the same BP as the 460...so if we ever have a problem, we have something to swap in.
Engine and tranny are supposed to only have 89K on them...and according to the guy I got it from "the tranny was rebuilt not too long ago"...who knows...but the fluid came out nice and shiny when I pulled the T-case off.
Also, the engine had an Edelbrock SP2P intake on it, it's an older version of the Performer, nothing fantastic but was always touted as a low RPM/RV type intake way back when...so we should be able to sell it for a few bucks, along with the engine to offset some of the cost Dan has sunk into the tranny.
Dan will pickup the T-case this Sunday on his way back to ClearLake..good thing about it, both the frame mount and the case mount are there, so it should save a few more trips to the JY.
And yes-----careful---content for shamless plug-----

It looks like a big engine Jim...but I dunno, price would be right for you, no worries...plus it's pretty complete, only thing I couldn't snag was the PS pump, but the bracket is there for it.
Would make a heck of a ride, but I don't know if it would be an easy swap or if it's possible at all...but, from what I understand, the 400 is based on the Cleaveland block, but with taller deck height.

Nah, I was kidding. I wouldn't even attempt to put a 400 in the Ranger. Now a 302 is a different story. However, that will not happen for quite some time as I would not want to do that until after putting the Explorer front and rear axles in it first.
I want to enjoy the truck for awhile first before I start replacing everything but the frame, bed and cab. If the 2.3 proves to be a disappointment, and I don't go with a turbo 2.3, then the 302 will go in. There are hundreds of them in the local junkyards, and my neighbor's son has put so many of them in Mustangs, he can do it in his sleep. I know the Ranger is not a Mustang, but there is a lot of info on doing that swap. Of course, I seem to remember a certain Ranger in the Clearlake area with a 5.0 in it. I don't think the owner would even know it's missing...

Yeah, and I would have the only 4x4 Ranger with its nose in the ground because of the extra weight. Nah, I think I will pass. Sure with enought money any swap is possible, but practical is a different story altogether. I will stick with the turbo 2.3 swap, then I don't have to change motor mounts, worry about tranny problems, or the different clutch connections. Just drop it in, make a small modification to the heater box, and enjoy the 200-250% increase in power!
I joined the ranger station forums, and it appears there are atleast 20 members there who have already done the swap and about 6-10 others (myself included) getting ready to do it. Some have gone the wild router with higher boost pressures, and stronger drivetrains, but I am looking more for a stock Turbo 2.3 swap. Even if I get a automatic version with the 150hp turbo engine, that is just under a 100% increase in power. The stock drivetrain can handle that. I would of course buy a new clutch but that should be the only thing I need other than the turbo downtube to the exhuast pipe.
