O.K. I am new to the diesel thing so bear with me. I just purchased a 99' 7.3 PSD CC 4x4. When I picked it up and test drove it there was no problem. It has sat for a couple days and this morning when I started it and whent to drive it was like there was no power like the turbo wasn't spooling up or something. I only let it warm up a minute or two and started driving. After about half a block it came back to "normal". Do you have to let these things warm up good before driving off? I got it from a dealer and have a month warranty so I want to figure out if it is me not letting it warm up enough or if I should be worried about some thing. TIA for all help.
That is good to hear I was worried about that. What is the normal warm up time I should wait? Also what is the EBPV and where can I find all the meanings to the acronyms used on this site?
I thought the computer disabled the EBPV on these trucks when the throttle was pushed, I'm sure I read that somewhere here.
You didn't say what the temp was when it happened.
My truck did a similar thing this AM, it started out fine but slowly lost power til it couldn't go 45 MPH, all this in the first 2 miles. Where I live, rural, I leave my driveway and it is 1/4 mi down hill to the hwy, then its still downhill for the first mile, so I have gravity on my side and I gently get it up to speed. I didn't know anything was wrong til I started up the other side and the speed was dropping, I was sure it was gellin' (4*) I was just about to get off the hwy and it cleared out and ran great. I had it plugged in all night and had heat coming out the vents while this was happening. This is the first time this truck has done this to me, and 4* or less, in the morning has, sadly enough, become the norm. I figured the fuel heater just hadn't done its job yet or the Hy-Vee fuel I got at a 10 cent/gal discount for shopping there wasn't good enough. I am on my second tank of their fuel and as I said this is the first time it happened.
First of all, welcome to the site. You may want to change your oil and oil filter unless you know that it has recently been changed and the correct oil was used. It sounds like you may have thick dirty oil and it taking it a while to get moving. How cold is it where you are? I don't the EBPV has robbed me of power, it seems to open when I give it enough fuel.
It's not 7.3L or even diesel-specific, so not everything related to the 7.3L will be there. If you read for a few days you'll catch on pretty quickly, though.
A great start is the link in my signature, for the Common Mods and Maintenance.

Thanks everyone, When the problem happend it was probably in the 50* range. I am from San Diego area so it is not like we see below freezing weather down here. I got the truck from a dealer so the oil and tranny fluid look like they were just changed but not sure on fuel filter. I will have to check it out.
My EBPV Doesn't turn on till at least a minute of run time in the morning. It is a very helpful thing for warming the truck up. Mine turns off the very second i Hit the throttle, hit the brake, press the clutch, or release the parking brake. It is my understanding from old threads that this is it working perfectly. Congrats on the truck hope you have fun here learning all about these great machines. And even more fun once you start to mod it. Give yourself at least one day of searching through old threads and you will learn a ton.
I have been checking out the site for a little while and finaly joined. I love the truck so far, I bought the truck to be my tow vehicle for my Toy Hauler, 27' Attitude with a max weight of 12K full loaded. I had a Ram 2500 w/5.9 gas and it wouldn't have lasted very long towing the rig. Lots of info on here to wade through but will have to keep reading. Thanks again everyone.
