Red face Bad Pcm?

Well i had posted that my truck was starting hard.I thought it was maybe my glow plugs.I took it to a really good dealership near me.I personally know the tech. They called me and said the glow plugs are o.k but that my pcm was bad. They said it is not communicating with my glow plugs.I do have a 3 stage dp tuner. It has been installed for about a year. They said they do not think it could have caused it but they will not hook it back up.They are special ordering a new one. They are chargeing me 800.00 bucks installed after tax.Does this sound right and am i getting boned.I could really use some help.

Tuners can and do go bad. I know this from personal experience. I'd ask them to flash the PCM back to stock and see if it runs before I would cough up 800 clams for those thieves. Then if it is the tuner, go from there. That is what I had to do under the same circumstances.

The tuner is the one that has the circuit board you plug into the pcm and leave there.Should they be able to just unhook it and it will be stock.

Don't know how they did mine (same setup) as I had to have it towed in and did not accompany it. They blamed the tuner and the truck ran fine when I went back and picked it up. Less than 200 bucks as I recall including the tow. I then got a new chip for almost nothing and this was all years ago. Remember the stealership don't sell tuners, but they do PCM's, so what do you think they are going to blame it on?

I hear what you are saying, but believe it or not they said they dont think it was the tuner. But they said it was 2 hours labor to install a new one.If i remember correctly it takes about ten minutes.

It's the weekend anyway, let's see how many members will chime in here that have had PCM failures.

This is really off topic, but as long as you insist on living in NY, things will never get better. Been there and done that too!! But I was never dumb enough to ride a bike at 7 degree's.

Two hours two install! WTF. When you get the truck back, while it is in the parking lot, drag the service writer outside by the freakin ear and show him how to put the Chip in in 10 minutes, and your tech should know that it does not take him more than a 1/2 hour labor, max while looking through the latest Playboy mag. Then do a big a** freaking burnout in the parking lot in the 140 tune.

or

just buy a PCM and install yourself.

but

THere is a way to see if the PCM is bad by ohming it. Someone this winter had the glowplug (diode?) go bad in their PCM and diagnosed it this way. THen spen the money on the PCM. I will be searching for it, will post back later.

Problem is they already ordered the new pcm,and they are chargeing me diagnostic time.I will have to eat that ,but i am definitely gonna beat them up on the install. To make it worse i just looked on the dp tuner sight and found them for sale for a little over 300 bucks.this is a tough lesson learned.i should have talked to you guys before making any decisions.
