I need help! I need to replace the hinges to my hood because the bolts that bolt tothe fire wall willl NOT tighten up. THing is I can't figure out how to remove them and then replace the blots. I know that something has to come off but I can't figure out what it is. So help this poor ol' 14yr old and give me a clue.
Also are there any books that I can buy that will help me with resotring my 1964 stepside.
Not 100% sure on a64; shouldn't be different than my 65 hinges. The bolts are threaded into the firewall into nuts that are welded to the inside, so if thier just spinning it probably means that the welds are broken. When I remove my hood hinge for powder coating; I had one do this. I had to use a pair of visegrips to clamp on the nut. I had to reach thru the air vent hole (once removed) on the kick panel. Clamp the visegrip's on it. I was then able to remove the hinge. Hope this helps with your question.
If they are really rusty, and they usually are. A torch is needed or grinder to remove the bolt heads. Once this is done the bolts can be drilled and easy outed. The capture nuts will need to be tack welded to prevent them from moving again and tapped for either fine thread on some 64s down and course thread on some 64 and up.
