I am new to this forum. I have a 1970 Ford F-250 Camper Special that I inherited from my Dad. He bought it new in 1970. Anyway, I was wondering if anyone here has been able to convert their old charging system to a internally regulated alternator. I've been able to do this to my old Cadillac with great results. For the Cadillac, I was able to find a company that makes a wiring harness to complete this conversion easily. Any insight would be appreciated.
i dont think it would be very difficult at all. ive used internally reg gm alternators on VWs because of price. there really isnt much special wiring involved but ive never done it on the vehicle your talking about.
There are plenty of aftermarket one wire alternators available that will fit your engine without needing to fab a new braket. Power Master is one that comes to mind, I'm sure there are others. No special wiring kits are needed, simply attach the wire to the correct terminal on the starter relay
I did the one wire alt thing, and just ran the alt wire to the hot side (battery)of the starter solenoid. Then I installed a hidden switch on the hot wire that runs to the fuse block. With this switch in the "off" position, nothing on the truck works, except for the alarm, which is wired directly to the battery.
