I got my mitts on a free 8.8 posi out of a 5L stang thinking I was just going to rebuild it and pop it in my son's 88 shortbox 2wd project. It occured to me once I have it apart that the axles in the truck may not be 28 spline like they are in the stang or the 7.5 Ranger posi that I just did. Anyone know for sure? Thanks.
I agree, probably 31 spline. Since its free, I wonder if anyone has tried to swap out the side gears and the spiders between the carriers and put in the F-150 "S" spring. I kinda doubt there is much difference in carriers. But then, I havnt tried it!
Fluke, luck, clean living?? One of those had me stumble across an axle in my local wrecker today that soved my problem. Imagine finding a 94 truck with a 3L55 axle 99% removed from the truck and getting the whole thing for $75! It's got the gears we want, posi, ABS setup and a rust free with original decal tags still on it. I can freshen up the posi and install the whole unit. Thanks for the response to my questions.
