4bbl intake
Now there has been a rumor that back in 1972 the L.A.P.D. had special
Bronco come from the factory with 4 BBl. on the 400's......
But nobody has ever seen one in the junk yards ....
Does anyone have the casting part number for the cleveland 4bbl intake, so when I go to see this guy, I can know for sure what he's got for sale?
I have a 400 and would like to have a 4bbl, I can get this intake and Motorcraft carb for 150 bones which is alot cheaper than aftermarket!
Thanks for any help,
Jay
I have looked for a factory 4V manifold for the M-block (351M/400) engines for years, and I have never found any evidence that one existed. Even parts that are unique to Canada or other non-domestic or export markets have part numbers in Ford parts catalogs, and there are no Ford part numbers for a 4V M-block manifold.
Is this guy possibly confused? Yes.
It's pretty simple to identify an M-block manifold:
- Look for a thermostat housing. Since the 335-series engines (351C/351M/400) are the only Ford pushrod V8s with a dry manifold, a thermostat housing rules it out as an M-block manifold.
- If there's no thermostat housing, measure the distance across the manifold between the bottom of the head faces. On an M-block manifold it will be almost exactly 8.5 inches. Any less and it's a 351C manifold.
Casting codes for 351C 4V manifolds are D0AE, D1ZE, and D3ZE. Some D1ZE manifolds are aluminum.
Don't forget to make a note of the carb ID tag (if present) for more clues to its origin.
Thanks for the info....this guy was way out to lunch!! I already knew that the 351M & 400's had the dry intakes so I asked him on the phone if it had the thermostat housing and he replied:"No, the Modifieds and Clevelands don't have the housing on the intakes..." So, I figured the guy knew what he was talking about and I went to see him.
The thermostat housing was on the intake! He argued with me that the engine he took it off of was a 351M and that it should fit my 400. After listening to him long enough, I told him that it was possibly off a 460 and he mentioned that he had a 460 stripped apart at his other shop, so I went with him to look at that intake......and guess what! It was the exact same.
This just goes to show that nobody out there seems to know much about our Gems unless they own one.
Sorry to waist your time.....
Jay
