So does anyone know why you can get a 5.4L V-8 with 3.73 gears and only 4.10 gears with the 6.8L V-10? I'm refering to 2008 models. And will this change anytime soon? I know they have built 3.73 V-10s in the past. thanks
They have some combinations that don't make a lot of sense. I was just fooling around with the "Build It Now" site. I verified that you can't get the 3.73 gears with a V-10. I selected a 4.10 LS, then later went to add the "Off Road" package. A warning window popped up, said if I did that the differential would be changed to a 4.10 Non-limited slip.
WTF?
Also, you can't get the power folding mirrors with the XLT sport package. Another rhetorical "WTF?"

You really need to talk to a sales guy, you can get alot of those combinations swapped up to your own funky wants(funky by fords standard). They only allow for so many different types of combinations on the internet.
4.30 gears are nice especially if your pulling. I had 4.10 gears on my last DRW and 4.30s on this one and the 4.30s really do help out alot.
With my 35s, 4.10s would bring it back to stock power so I think 4.30s would be the way to go. Now maybe when I'm out of college I can afford gears and a locker...but that's a ways off.
so anyone out there working for Ford or for a dealer know if you can get a V10 w/ 3.73 (w/ or w/out LS) from the factory? I'm looking into custom ordering a 2009 F-250 in the summer or fall. Thanks.
yeah, i understand that, and having 4.10 gears will not make the truck a deal buster by any means, but why will Ford let you get 3.73 with the 5.4 in a superduty?
If you go by the logic that you need 4.10 gears to make the V10 pull like the diesel, or to make it more comfortable pulling heavy loads, or just to make it accelerate faster... then why would they allow the 5.4 to get 3.73, an engine with less torque and horsepower than the V10 or diesel?
