My truck just started making a whining sound that increases and decreases with RPM. It sounds like a power stearing pump going bad. I had my wife rev and I listened under the hood and it sounds like its coming from the turbo. Any ideas?
The HPOP is driven off of the rear gear train. An "Accoustic Wave Attenuation" fitting is installed to dampen hydraulic noise. A noise from the HPOP could change pitch w/ engine speed I would guess. You also have the low ICP. These are just my guesses - hopefully someone more experienced will come along. Since you are out of warranty, this could be fairly expensive if it were the problem. Hope you get a quick (and cheap) answer.
Could be a bearing locking up in the turbo, could also be a problem with the HPOP, Its located below the turbo. with out seeing it, it's hard to tell. get it to the dealer asap. keep us posted and good luck.
Yeah, now the truck will barely fire up. And it wont take throttle. I'm starting to lean toward HPOP. I'll know this coming up week though. Gonna have to get her towed to the dealer Monday. really sucks!
i too have this problem. the truck has 150k on it. the only thing is i cant hear the whining/whistle until i drive it and get the rpms up really hard in 2-3 gear.
it too sounds like its coming from the turbo. maybe mines different though.
is it possible my 4" downpipe has come loose a bit?
