A/C Question

My a/c stopprd working. It is charged and the pressure switch checks out.All fuses checked out ok also.I have power to the dryer pressure switch also the pressure switch at the compressor but no power to the a/c clutch.Looking at the wire diagram the only other thing is the A/C clutch resistor diode.Does anyone know where it is located.Thanks.

I'm not sure about the wiring, but I know some people have problems with the low pressure switch on the dryer. A quick easy test would be to unplug the switch and put a jumper in the plug. If the clutch engages with the jumper, either the switch is bad or the system has lost freon. I like those quick cheap and easy tests.

Maybe I wasn't clear. I performed this test without the engine running. The clutch comes in, but the compressor doesn't turn. If you force the compressor to run, and it is low on freon, you could damage it.
Thanks for pointing that out.

even not low on 134/freon, you could damage it by jumping the circuit and running the air with the engine running.

I did all those test and a continuity test on both pressure switches.I also jumped the switches with the engine not running the clutch didn't engage.I also ran a wire from the battery to the compressor the clutch engages. This is why I am suspect of the diode but I need to know where it is so I can test it.

If you don't want to turn it over to the pros just yet, you could try the other section of this forum that is dedicated to heating and a/c. Some Pros and real knowledgeable amateurs hang out there.
Sorry I can't help more.

I just found the problem,There was a loose wire on the harness on the switch at the back of the compressor.I put it back in and siliconed it in place.Works fine now. When I put my multimeter on it the voltage was erractic, did a wiggle test and voltage stayed at btween 11.95 and 12 volts.I hardly take my truck to any mechanic and I don't replace parts to trying to eliminate the problem,I troubleshoot everything and if after extensive troubleshooting I still can't find the problem then I have no choice but to take it to a mech and that doesn't happen very often. Thanks to all of you who tried to help me out, this a great website.
