Hauled a heavy trailer today out of Cincy today and coming up the long heavy grade from the river north I had it on the wood or close to it for the better part of 2 miles. 4th gear just a tick over 3000 RPMs and the Pyro (in exhaust manifold) was reading 1200, boost was at 25 PSI and no sign of defueling. This truck was a fleet vehicle so I am pretty sure it has no mods, there are no visable mods. Was reading aboout others defueling at lower boosts, is the pre 450 SD like mine different programming than the PUs? I have pulled this same load up the same roads before with my 2001 350 PS and the 97 runs rings around it. I am happy to say the least Had the passenger window down a crack and that stack was sounding good.
Ya. I love makin mine work. Ive only worked it twice since ive i had it once with this load and then again this weekend with this same trailer with 4 heavy round rolls on it. The hay was just enough weight to hear it grunt a little without making it strain. It sounds great with just a little weight on it. Really makes that turbo sing.
LOL thats not even a load!!!!!!!!!! Check this out, this isnt even any of our big equipment, the track hoe weighs about 8500, the skidlader about 7100, and the trailer weighs about 3500. 70 mph on the freeway, but you can feel it on the hills.

your right! only had about 10k behind me with the tractor. My only point is she sounds good with a light load. Enough to grunt a little, but not sound like your boggin down any. We couldnt put anymore than 4 rolls of hay on last weekend cause I had to pull it down a muddy trail thru the woods. (uphill both ways...LOL j/k) I had to go to 4lo just to get the 4 rolls out.
That is a good lookin' truck. Is the highway you're talking about Interstate 74? I drive that highway almost everyday. It is a good grade to see how your truck performs loaded/unloaded.
Glad to see some OH people around here. See ya out there.
I tow with mine only occasionally, but recently I did a foundation repair for a customer and I had to tow some rented equipment to the job site (I have no hero pics for this). I towed backhoe one week and a bobcat the following week. The truck did a great job of it, but I think that that the surge brakes on the trailer is what did my transmission in a few months later.

Shoot, I couldnt do that, If there was a mud puddle more than 3 feet long my truck would have sank!!! 2wd is great for around here, I dont do anything off gravel.
As for DOT, well, I dont stop, and I do have a long range CB. I am not saying that I avoid them like the plauge, I am just saying that I never go where they are...... LOL
I need to get some pics of my back hoe. Its a cat extend a hoe. Weighs about 18k or so. It really loads up my truck, give it all t wants, but the funny thing about it is, there are some guys over on the towing forum that insist they pull 40k with 1 tons and DOT never says anything to them and that they were plated for 40 k too. They also get 12 mpg when at 40k. I am not saying that they are liars, i am just saying that they arent telling the truth....
jeese, how many people on this sight are farmers, everyones haulin tractors or round bales. we've fit 23 bales on our gooseneck but the trailor wont take it well, the farm truck doesnt mind much but the trailor tries to break in half.
there is a load. about 19,000 pounds there. then we add a 3500# bush hog, and then a 1200# roll of hay. thats a load!
Does your truck have overloads? Looks like it is squated bad.
