Strange thing happened to me this evening while driving. i was crusing home from work and the truck had been running for about an hour while no problems as usual. i stopped at the gas station to get a gallon of milk when i got back in my truck to start it the glowplug light did not go out and remained on the rest of the way home. the truck ran great as ususal, i was wondering if the light means that my plugs are on the way out. the truck has 112k on the clock and is a 02.
Sounds like your Glow Plug Relay is stuck closed. It will burn you glowplugs up if it keeps them energized. It will also run you batteries down if for some reason it is enegized with the key off. Might want go check it.
i just went out and checked. the WTS light can on and went off. i fired up the truck and drove it around the the light went out right after start up. still has me wondering what's going on. i might replace the relay anyways just to be safe.
I had a glow plug light staying on, but it was accompanied with a no start condition. Turned out to be a shorted wire. Maybe you just shorted a different wire. Check the main engine wiring harness for chaffing. It's the big harness that runs up and over the drivers valve cover. Check for chaffing against the valve cover and also above the valve cover at the metal bracket.
I agree it cant hurt to check.Especially since I cant offer any insight as to the cause of the light staying on.There are a buch of people on here that do.But two members with vast electronic knowledge come to mind.I believe they are "AustinS" and "Enpiretec".Not sur of the spelling of the second one.But anyway.Maybe one of these guys sees this or someone.
