This problem only happens when it is COLD, so far. I'm in eastern Nebraska for a short job from Texas. When I shift into reverse on very cold days the engine quits. It will start right back up without any hesitation. The CEL does not light up. Today it is about 40 and it did not happen. I'm open to any ideas.[FONT=Arial]
NO but I'll do it shortly. My trip to the job is only 10 minutes or so and it has been COLD here in eastern Nebraska. Its not really long enough for a good warm up of engine and transmission. Cabin heat just starts getting good when I shut it down. Transmission rarely shifts into OD on the jaunt to work. I'll check it when I have the time to go further and do a GOOD warm up.
Fluid levels are OK. It still shuts down when shifting into reverse even when the engine is at operating temperature. It always restarts and will shift into reverse and move. Only ONCE when it was above freezing and I drove it for about a half hour it didn't stall when shifting to reverse. Personally I think it is a COLD thing. Maybe the reverse oil is not warmed up to allow operation?????
The "reverse oil" is the same as the "forward oil", it's transmission fluid.
Only thing I can think of is the coolant is thicker than it might be, sludgy, and causing to much resistance against the engine when you shift to reverse and it engages. Also, it could be you're reverse clutch in the cold weather being stiff and catching when it shouldn't. Or there might be something wrong with the reverse gear itself. My guess is it's the reverse clutch.
The solution is quite simple. Had to ask justanswers.com for USD15.
Anyway, just ask your dealer to reprogram the Power Control Module (PCM). There are updates or changes to the original programming. This is an inexpensive procedure.
My 2005 XP Eddy is now running sweetly.
Now, will someone tell me about " Tire Pressure Sensor Fault". How come they're so F-ing expensive!!!
