Grille Lights

Anyone install or have pics of lights mounted behind the grille on their trucks? I saw a Ford on youtube.com with lights mounted on the core support and it looked good. Thanks!

I am just working on installing lights behind the grill on my '07 f-150. Driving lights are done (behind the grill) and the fog lights will be started soon.

I didn't take too many pics and most of the pics I did take where in really bad lighting conditions (rain + snow + night time). It should give you a good idea what to expect tho.

First off, this is the "completed" shot. The lights are Hella FF1000's with 100w bulbs in them. They are covered using a clear protective cover (also sold by hella).

There is plenty of room in behind our grills to mount "huge" lights. One thing I did try to do with this install is to minimize drilling into the truck, so, all mounts are done with existing holes. Keep in mind that I do have access to a welder so many of the brackets can be "custom fit" with a bit of time and a angle grinder.

After looking around for a bit, I figured the easiest way to was to bring 2 vertical supports up from the end bracket on the trucks frame. From this bracket, a 1" square tube was brought up vertically and then a piece of angle iron bolted to it. This give me a level surface to mounts the lights onto.

As you can see in this picture, the bottom of the hella's are mounted at about the same height as the bottom of the headlamps. The horizontal angle iron provides a great mounting spot for any accessories you want to mount (like Hella FF1000's and 2 pairs of supertones in my case). The 2 shiny bolts on either end is where the bar attaches to the vertical support. This was done so the entire bar can be easily removed with only 2 bolts. All the electrical has been done with quick connects as to ease removal.

Here is a picture of the vertical support with the bar removed. This is the passenger side, looking straight down from the hood.

If you look carefully at your own truck, you will notice that that area I have the back plate bolted to is really a "cupped" shaped piece of metal. I cut a 1/4 piece of steel plate to match the shape of the flat area of this cup, spaced it back another 1/2" then attached the 1" square tube to this.

Here is a shot of the front plate that is used to sandwich the factory bracket.

The same is done on the drivers side.

the mount is rock solid. I can move the entire truck up and down, left and right if I grab the bar and there is no flex.
