I have an 05 EB Expedition and, after reading this site, would like to get a new "Y" pipe and Magnaflow muffler. I wnt to a muffler chain store and they stated they could only do Flowmaster, No Y pipe because the Y pipe is part of the Catalytic converter, and the cost plus installation would be $412.00. This was cutting out the OEM and installing the new muffler and any piping/hangers required to make up the difference in size. In addition, the guy stated it would be a lot louder even in going with the Delta series muffler. I am looking to have a less restrictive flow to help my Volant CAI, and gain horsepower to gain milage, without it being to loud.
Try our large body Wickedflow. Those are free flowing and fairly quiet. I wouldn't worry about the y-pipe, the OEM y-pipe while not perfect, isn't restrictive either. The factory muffler is the main choke point. Our FullBlown 50 series is not too loud either, but we haven't added to the site yet.
I wouldn't worry about the cats and Y-pipe. Only certain vehicles like the 00'-05' Excursion and 00'-04' SD had real crappy Y-pipes. Yours should be fine.
Why not get a cat-back exhaust? A good cat-back kit from Magnaflow you can install yourself in your driveway.
