after many reccomendations for racer x, i have taken a look at his site, and i have to say,
i dont know which is the better idea...

or to save for a built one...

Your 96 will need some upgrade hard parts.
Shoot a e-mail to Bill RacerX if you are looking to do a build on your own.

What do I need to do to upgrade my '97 E4OD to handle towing my travel trailer? I plan on getting a bigger trailer in the future, so for the heck of it, let's say I get rid of my current 24-footer (~8,000-lbs) and get a 30-footer (maybe fifth-wheel).

I have a tranny shop in Boise I've been talking with and checking out. They say they can upgrade my tranny anyway I want. They can get the parts and TC or I can bring the parts and TC to them.

I know I want a triple-disk TC and RacerX sounds like the way to go. Any other triple-disk TCs I should consider? What else should I do to upgrade my tranny?

Thanks for info, Rog. 2400 RPM stall speed; isn't that a bit high? Will that cause a lot of slipping when I'm not towing? When I'm towing on level ground, my speed is around 2000 RPMs.

Anyone know the stall-speed and size (9.5" or 10.5", etc) of the stock TC?

So the 9.5" with a 2400 RPM stall speed is good for daily driving and weekend/long-distance towing?

The price seems reasonable. What internal tranny parts do I need to upgrade?

Sorry for the

How do you know if you need a "4 Stud" or "6 Stud" converter w/o actually pulling the tranny?

I believe all our diesels have 6 stud converters.
