8BA flywheel question.

Hi everyone<O</O

I ordered a pressure plate for my C1BA from Summitr<ST1acing. It was the only one listed for a flathead at Summitr</ST1acing, Jegs and Centerforce Clutches. When it got here, it was too small to fit my flywheel. I don't think my engine was the original one for my truck. The radiator was also larger than the stock radiators installed in F100s. The transition is a 4 speed, may be non synchromesh but I'm not sure. I didn't look at it very much as I'm not reusing it. I believe the engine originally came out of a larger truck, but this is just a guess. Does anyone know if the larger trucks had larger flywheels and if so does anyone carry the pressure plates for them. Thanks in advance. I also posted this in the flathead section but I wanted to also post it here because of more activity here.<O</O

Thanks
Rick

Larger trucks used an 11" flywheel, F-1's/F-100's used a 10". The 11" would not be of interest to anyone with a performance application.

You should be able to tell if you transmission is non-synchro by the shift pattern. Non-synchro has reverse to the right and down, syncronized is to the right and up.

Thanks Ross for the reply. Looks like I will have to find a flathead flywheel from a car. I assume the bolt pattern at the crank shaft would be the same. I wish I knew it was a larger truck flywheel before I had it resurfaced and machined to accept a pilot bearing for the T5.
Thanks Bob for your reply. I'm not reusing the old transmission. I have a T5 out of a 94 Sonoma. Do you know anyone who could use my old one. They could have it for the cost of shipping. I know reverse has some issues that would have to be repaired. The output shaft spins freely when the transmission is in reverse and you hold the input shaft.

John Finn was looking for a transmission a while back. He just recently posted about a wing window issue, you do search and find him.

I think it's safe to re-drill your flywheel for a 10", you would want to re-balance afterwards, with/without pressure plate attached. Also, any F-1 flywheel will be 10", so it isn't just cars that had them. Make sure if you buy a different one that it is for an 8BA, the earlier ones are different!
