I took Jen to a drive in(chick flick) when we were still dating in my old Explorer. Which was nice because we just backed into the parking spot, folded the back seats down and I went to sleep. She was a little upset that I didn't say up and watch the movie with her but she got over it!
They shut down the one in Regina two years ago, We went and saw "The Dukes of Hazzard" just before they closed it. Backed into the spot with this '02 f150 that dealer let me try for the weekend. We put up lawn chairs on the back and had our MacDonald's while we watched, it was fun!!!
Drive-ins sure aren't what they used to be when I was a teenager there were three in Regina and they were all full every weekend. I am not sure what happened but the last time we went there weren't 20 cars there.
The main downside to a drive-in is the sound. You can only get 2 channel sound, 2.1 if you have a subwoofer. You just don't get quite the effect compared to 5.1. Technically you can get 8.1 but I haven't seen any movies encoded with that.
The problem is getting the signal to the vehicles radio. You can't broadcast a multi channel digital signal using a FM transmitter. The only digital signal I know off that is broadcast is HDTV in the states but it requires a special antenna and a reciever. Pretty much the only way you can get true 5.1 in a vehicle requires a dvd reciever deck, an extra speaker and a subwoofer. 97% of all vehicles only have 2 channel sound.
