MP3/changer?

Did Ford make a MP3 or multi disk player for the 04 F250 ordoes any other factory ford radio fit that does?

There was a thread a few weeks ago about this. Guys are taking the factory radios out of a Focus (they have MP3 capability). They are a direct replacement for the factory radios in our trucks, although I can't say for sure if the 2004s will "plug and play".

Do a search on it.

Radio/MP3

When I bought our 03 F350 the dealer offered a "radio upgrade" to a multi-disk + Mp3 player radio. This radio was actually an option on the Explorer & Expedition/Excursion until sometime in 05. They had them on the shelf from Visteon (Ford's Radio Supplier) brand new. What the dealer did with the radios that they removed - who knows??? I do know a few of these wound up in trucks that only had the basic AM/FM radio w/o cassette or CD.

Only cost us like $175-200 my guess is the dealer paid Visteon 1/2-3/4 of that @ wholesale.

I've seen this same model radio on e-bay ocassionally

Not sure if this applies to 04's or not - think the dash was the same but I don't have an 04 handy to check.

Thanks for the info guys. I will look at the focus radios. DG do you have a picture of the radio? The 04 has the same dash 99-04 as far as I know.

The 04 SD has the same kinda-double-din size hole that Ford did in lots of vehicle's dashes 95&U.

Not all radios from this era will work in the 04 SD: It needs to have the four holes seen on the front cover (you may be able to mod ones that do not, your mileage may vary ). It also should have a plastic piece on the bottom to catch the mounting track that is in the SD. The 04 SD wiring harness has a single black plug that was used 1998 - 2004 (pre-98 radios have two skinny plugs, most 05+ goes to a grey plug).

The radios from 04 in Explorers and Expeditions may work but they do not have the four holes. Excursions have the holes. Look for a radio that has buttons on it that say "folder" - that usually indicates MP3 capability. Pre 08 Escapes seem to have the correct radio and connector.

Caution: some Pioneer, Alpine, Shaker, Mach, & Audiophile radios require an external amplifier.

There are several radios on eBay. Search on: ford 6 cd mp3
One there currently has the correct plug (item 110223844868), don't know if it needs the amp though.

It will be cheaper (and usually be a better radio) to go the aftermarket route. But if you want that don't-steal-me look, a factory one is what you want.

Hope this helps, good luck.

Radio/MP3

I'll see if I can get a photo in the next couple of days. The one in our F350 has a grey/black carbon fiber face plate. If I remember correctly you could get 3-4 different faceplates. Black, Carbon Fiber, Brushed AL for example.

The '05 and up Super Duty, Focus, and many other radios are larger than the '04 and previous and you would require a modification to your dash in order to make the opening larger. Not sure about the harness, but I think they are also different - that was posted earlier. When I searched for an MP3 for my '05 I know that I need the larger one and that the '04 and earlier are slightly smaller radio size, but can't be sure of what mods you would need to do on the earlier model.

If you search ebay, you will want to look for ones that are '04 and previous - here's some examples that may fit. Some may need to have the harness adapted.

Wild's examples:

1st - Focus radio. May work, but the wiring harness will have to be adapted. May not be a 6 cd changer.

2nd - Mustang radio. Incorrect mounting, no "four holes", mounting will have to be adapted. Probably needs an external amp. And it is the wrong color.

3rd - Ford Ranger. Has promise, if it indeed has the world plug (black connector) and not the Phase II (grey one). Probably does not have RDS. Does anyone know if the Rangers have green back lighting?

4th - 06 Expedition. Wrong mounting, wrong wiring. Probably only single CD.

Nothing cheap on eBay right now.
