Well looks like I'm getting screwed! All the manager can say is it was filled when it left here. So basically he is saying we aren't paying for anything. I guess I am stuck now. Now he is saying something internally burned all the fluid. I guess I need to brace myself and get ready to pay a big bill!!!

BD Diesel makes a by-pass tube elimination kit that stops this issue from happening! i notice a pretty good difference when i put mine on. it takes a couple extra miles to get the trans up to temp, or a couple extra min in the drive way, but it eliminates the failure of the by-pass tube!!
This is very interesting... I have to check if I have it ...

I notice that once-in-a-while, the torque converter takes a LONG time before it starts locking up. I wonder if the darn thing is sticking closed and not allowing it to warm up at fast as it should.

get a lawyer from the phone book, the ones that u dont pay unless you get money.

have your work records, showing the ford dealership did the trans work, now its messed up.

sue the **** out of ford for the parts, labor, missed work, and time.

ford will more than likely try to avoid the lawsuite by settling out of court and will probly just fix your truck.

If you end up having to put another tranny in it don't have the dealer do it. The dealer just throws in a Ford reman unit with no upgrades. Try and find a good reputable transmission shop in your area.

My sisters 95' Explorer puked its 2nd tranny (Ford Reman) at 160k and needed a new one. The first tranny went out at 50k in 1998 and cost $2k at the dealer installed. I just got the 3rd tranny installed for her at a local transmission shop for $1575 with tax, that included a new converter, shift kit, updated valve body mod, new fluid, install and a 2 year unlimited mile warrenty. Of course a 4R100 will cost more. Shop around, the dealer will take you through the ringer $$$ wise. Reman Ford transmissions don't come with any upgrades like shift kits and etc. Just food for thought.

In my experiance dealers don't know crap about transmissions and are hesitant to touch them, all they want to do is throw in a reman.

Thanks for the info, this does seem to be the route that I am going to end up taking. I am just really upset with ford right now. I'm picking my truck up today from the dealership.

i don't know about the 5R's but i do know the 4R100's have them! i can see where the purpose of it comes in to play, but it also makes a weak link in the trans, cuz if it goes out, no fluid goes threw the cooler!!

as for the trans options, i've heard AWSOME things about BTS and ATS, and Factory Tec transmissions!! all are on the high dollor side, but it's kinda one of those "you get what you pay for" things! i wouldn't even look up a ford reman!!

BMF42, don't hate Ford. Hate the dealer. They are not one and the same.

If you get screwed on after the fact service on a washer/dryer at Sears, do you hate Whirlpool (or whatever) are do you hate Sears?

Sorry for the rant, just a pet peeve when dealers give Ford a bad name.

I can see where you are coming from. I was pertaining my comment to the actual dealership that I went to. They did this to me even after I bought 2 cars from them. This really sucks, but I can assure you that this does not put a Bad name on ford but it does put a crappy name on this particular dealership. Rest assured I am a Ford boy, and this wont make me look the other way.
