That sounded like my leaking exhaust manifold. Very small "tick" noise at idle but louder during acceleration.
I first heard the noise before I could see the crack. Then the crack grew. It broke the right side exhauast manifold in half. Broken exhaust manifolds are "relatively" common with these 302 trucks
Sounds the same as my 94. I agree it sounds like an exhaust leak at the manifold. Headers for mine in the spring once I fix that dang wandering steering. First though I gotta wait for the snow to stop falling. I really hate it when I'm laying under the truck and the back of my jacket freezes to the driveway, LOL.
if it was a crack or the manifold leaking, wouldnt i be able to feel the air coming out of it if i had my hand or something checking as someone else revved the engine? coz thats what i did when i crawled all under the truck looking for the leak...
btw...if i was to introduce oil via a vaccum line into the intake to produce smoke to look for a leak...what would be a good line to use?
Brake booster line, you might as well do sea foam instead of oil. You will get alot of smoke, and clean your engine at the same time. Have you checked you manifold bolts? Mine on my F350 were all rotted and lose and didnt seal worth a crap. I had 2 gaskets on the drivers side to get it to seal. Then I did headers and used Mr. Gasket Ultra Seals. They are awsome. There are 2 thermactor tubes at the back of the heads, or manifold depending on ur emissions style. You have the AIR tubes in your exhaust manifolds?
ok, I pulled the upper intake, and yes the egr tube was broken, and everyone wanted almost 100 bucks for the thing, so the guy at the parts house gave me a small piece of rubber hose to fix it (high temp). Also, while i had the intake off, my smog pump is basically a idle pulley, but all the stuff was still connected to the heads. I checked the piping the went into the heads and it was solid and rust free. I took everything off and plugged that stuff up too. She now runs much better, thanks to everyone for your help. Cost a total of 16 dollars and 4 hours.
I had a tap/knock sound, and I was leaking oil in my 94 ... so I thought oh sh!#, I crawled under to see where the oil leak is coming from it was the oil pan (rusted),
while I was under I looked at the exhaust by the cat and there was a small hole, taped it up, added some oil, started it and it sounds like new lol even with the 380 000k
