E4OD rebuild time?

I just replaced the entire ECM module ( per error code P-1748 ). The OD light is blinking and the trannie only shifts manually. The auto portion does nothing- no up or down shifting while still recieving the same error code. My mechanic buddy( here in Baja who does not know trannies ) who captured the error codes suggests it's rebuild time saying the trannie is wore out and that no one in the area had the 'chops' to assist.
If I need to rebuild I'll need to order parts and have a gringo pal deliver to me in Baja- so I'll need to get all the parts at once. I expect to need a rebuilt trans but what about the torque converter? Any pointers or insight greatly appreciated as my mechanical skills are slim. FWIW rarely, if ever will I be towing on this trans/PSD and I doubt it will be leaving the dirt roads of Baja.

Thanks in advance for your insight and help.

I just had mine rebuilt last month and it isnt cheap ($2200 with converter). If it is time for a rebuild then I would definitely go with a new converter, and not a stock model, definitely a heavier duty aftermarket piece.

One other thing - You should find out for sure if the new computer isnt the problem or at least faulty in some way. Since it controls shifting and torque converter lockup it could destroy your new transmission.

**Edit**

Most high volume transmission shops stock rebuilt units ready to go. Yours comes out, the new one goes in, and yours goes in the rebuild pile for later. The reason I mention it is that given your location you could contact a good shop that has one ready to go. You and your buddy could take yours out, pick up the new one (leaving yours as the rebuildable core) and handle the install with less headache.

I had the same problem with mine about a year ago and pulled the tranny thinking it was bad and all it was was the lil black thing on the driverside of the transmision, the electronic shifter thing!! After that my tranny was fine.

Did you need to remove the trannie to inspect/view this? Not sure I know what the 'electronic shifter thing' is. Can someone give me a nudge?

Thanks for the insight...

No you dont. I thought what you thought that my tranny was bad. I had to manually shift mine and when put in drive it would either sit there or take off in overdrive. If you craw under the driver side of the truck you will see it on the side of the transmision. I replaced it and had no more problems. Im sure someone eles will give you a beter description on what it does but I think the computer tells it when to shift and electronicaly it shifts by moving forward and backwards. Hope this helps!
