My father-in-law has this grill guard sitting around that he offered to give me. It's in San Antonio and I'm in Dallas so I haven't gotten a good look at it, but the mounts on it look suspicious. I have asked him to get me some measurements on it but in the meantime I thought I'd see if anyone else has seen one like this.
I was thinking I could make it fit also, but I'm not a welder, though I often wish I was. I would need some help. If trucks were made of wood, I could have it completely decked out. Hey, a deck, that would be cool.
I don't see how it can mount onto the bumper because mine is like yours, Robb. I would think I'd need two pieces that go over and under the bumper to catch the frame. I'm trying to find a picture of a guard that mounts to our style truck.
I found this picture on the Ranch Hand Website. It looks very similar to me, maybe the mounts have been altered a bit. I need to get the measurements and check them against my truck.
Now that I think about, it looks like this fits the same truck, but the one in the first picture is probably not a Ranch hand, but another manufacturer. This is starting to look good.
kind of looks like a dodge grill guard, but to be honest, they're really just big chunks of metal. i have worked in the past as a welder/fabricator, and i could tell you that it wouldnt take much at all to have it modified (or to mod it urself).
maybe there are supposed to be brackets that come from under the bumper, or through the bumper vents, which are still on the truck the guard came from. the only thing i can see as it not working on your truck is that the two 'wings' (what would be protecting the lights) seem to go back at more than an angle than obs trucks would have. the ranch hand pic does not seem to have quite an angle
I agree you should be able to make it work pretty easily. The only thing I hate about those things is that when you hit someting substantial they bend back and hit the hood causing dents that may otherwise have not been there. Good luck
If it's angling back too much, that would mean having to cut and reweld the wings and also bend back the outside returns to match the angle of the truck. It might be too much trouble to modify this for me. The reason I would like one is for two reasons: 1- Driving in south Texas means you will hit a deer. In 20 years of driving, I've hit 4. I'd rather hit the guard than the plastic on the grill. 2- I think the extra weight up front would smooth out the ride just a little bit. I can actually think of two other reasons - its free and they can look kinda cool.
