I was about to buy a 1964 4x4 flatbed from a private party in Salem Or, but decided to first get help from this forum decoding the vin#. Some things didn't add up. One pic showed an odd (quite vertical) steering column angle and the grille was from a '66. It turned out that the '64 was actually a '63 4x2 that had been converted into a 4x4. Not saying it wouldn't work as a local driver but It wouldn't have passed the provincial safety inspection required of me to import the vehicle into Canada for licencing. Thanks to the numerous respondants. Nothing like information to help make the 'right' decision. Great resource forum. Thanks again!
