I have an 03 Excursion with the factory DVD player in the back. It won't play DVDs that have been recorded. I am wondering if maybe the newer model trucks do or if someone has found a aftermarket DVD player that will swap into the factory spot?
Probably the incorrect format for music. If you do a disc to disc copy it might work but if you copy each song to the disc you might have an incorrect format. I have experienced this also,, but haven't made another disc.
I'm talking about the DVD player that is in the back. I can play burned CDs in the dash. I just can't play burned or copied DVDs in the factory player in the back seat.
could it just be the brand of disc , i use DATAWRITE , not sure why i said that as you probably cant get them in the States.
Have you checked to see if there is a firmware update for the dvd player. i know you can sometimes e-mail the maker telling them of your problem & if there is an update you can burn it to a cd-r & put it in the player , turn it on & it does it all for you.
Marcus may have hit the nail on the head, try a DVD-R, if that won't play then the player is not capable of playing any aftermarket dvd's. Generally the player is marked with supported formats. dvd-r and dvd+r are diff... formats and most players designed for aftermarket dvd's are designated to the dvd-r format.
I had some of these troubles back in late 2004 when I bought
my rig. With 5 young kids I HAD to find a solution.
What worked for me was to buy a stand-alone independent
DVD/CD burner. It plugs into the wall and a USB port on my computer,
and makes better copies than the internal burners that came with
my computers.
I also use only (-) disks, after researching this.
I have had zero problems since...

sounds silly but when you record (or copy , illegal of course but we all do it) you have got the region code correct , ie region 1 for the us , region 2 for the uk etc etc.
on my software i use , i copy them without a region code , so it will play anywhere.
i would imagine your default settings are region 1 and NTSC as default , but you may be recording them as region 2 and Pal output.
only a few seconds to check , may make a difference
can you play cdr's , ie the old avi video ? ok on cd's ?
but it may just be down to the manufacturer and the colour of the dye they use in the disc, some will read , some wont.
trial and error works eventually.
ask to see what type people use that work and go from there.
It may be the age of the original DVD. We have DRM to contend with now also. That's Digital Rights Management. Some DVDs can't be copied. Can you play your copied disk on another player, if so this isn't the case.

everything can be copied , why do you think they introduced DRM ?

you just tell your computer in a sort of strange way that you own the rights , in fact you do have the right to copy/back up your own dvd's , music , blu-ray etc
