ok so, im looking at a truck tomorrow. its a red fx4 crew cab with the 6.4, the sticker is $50,825, i have them down to 42,000. what do ou guys think?? good, bad, am i pushing them enough?? the real problem is about my trade, they only want to give me 23k for my cummins that was 44k 8 months ago!!
The problem does not sound like it is the price of the new truck. The issue is the trade in on your old truck. How could an 8 month old diesel truck only be worth 52% of what you paid for it unless its been in a serious accident, flood, has an impaired title or some other thing to adversely affect its value?
I posted my deal from last week, -$500 UNDER COST. 0 percent for 60 months. My .02 is that dollars off sticker mean little. I always ask for a copy of dealer invoice (which is no secret) and never been denied. I deal from that number (never over +$100). As for the trade that is a different deal in my mind. Use caution there.
I just bought an 08 f250 lariat CC LB all the bells and whistles. Sticker was $53,600. Invoice was $46,600, paid $45,500. Just a hair over 15% off. The dealers usually have 13% to take off before they start to lose money that hurts. Go onto Edmunds.com and ask for internet quotes from nearby dealers. Buy at the end of the month and look for any dealer offering employee pricing to the public. That's how i got mine. It's basically a no haggle price that beats all of the other dealers not willing to match price. Always keep your trade separate. That's how they look to screw you and bring their profit back up.
I just looked at your numbers and you have it in the 17.5% off range. I'd say that is a great deal if it's the truck you want. Keep your trade is kept separate.
work out the deal (final price ) on the new truck first. then tell them you have a trade. you should be able to knock 18% off of the sticker price (price would be 41,677)-- 20% if you are good.

OK, well it is a Dodge. LOL. Just kidding guys! Like everyone has said, your price out the door on the new truck seems pretty good, but the dealer is stealing your trade-in (if it isn't trashed). I agree that the trade has to be kept out of the deal for you to win at this game. Do a little research on what "like" Dodge trucks are selling/advertised for in your area. I'll bet you will see these prices in the lower end of the mid 30s. If so, you're leaving a lot of money on the table. (he who controls the gold, wins!)
Just my 2 cents. I paid 1500 below invoice 2 months ago on a KR 6.4. With inventory now up, you should be able to get those kind of deals today. IMHO
For what it's worth - as everyone has already said - the hardest part about buying a new vehicle is the trade value. What does KBB Say the value of your truck is? When I bought my '08 - can't remember what the final # was on the truck, but I got "supplier" pricing, which is about $200 under invoice and a $1,500 rebate. The kicker, as always, is the trade. I had an '04 F-250 w/80,000 miles on it. I paid $37k new for it in Feb '04 and got $25,000 for it as a trade value in July '08. I consider this, by far, the best deal I've ever gotten on a new vehicle. I drove my '04 for ~ $290 a month.
Ok, I just did a quick search on Kelly Blue Book on your dodge. Granted, I don't know what your options are, but for $44k new, I'd say it was pretty decked out. I think you're gettin hosed to the tune of $8,000 to $10,000 on your trade.
What I'd do is go to a different dealer and even if they don't have the exact truck you want, get them to work up a trade deal for you and compare it. Just my $0.02 worth
Maybe one reason not to buy a Dodge. Dam that truck has sure lost some value or the dealer is trying to steal it an make fortune on it.. Could be the latter.

Yah try another dealer your getting ripped on your trade/
was looking at trading in my 2002 ford f350 extended cab 4 wheel drive with 78000 mi for a new ford but was totally insulted by the dealer. just went to another dealer made me a offer and then when i called back he told me that part of the incentives expired. dealers here in mass dont seem to want to drop much more than 500 under invoice. b4 i pay that i will be driving a dodge or chevy , and i have been a ford man all my life
I just sold my 2000 f250 v-10 CC SB Lariat today for $8500. The dealers were only offering me $5000. It took me only 11 hours to get the first call to sell it. Don't believe the b.s. the dealers give you. It's not hard to sell it yourself if you take the time to research the resale value and do the dirty work. It was definitely worth $3500 to do the thirty minutes of time invested to move it.
