Wont start when warm!!

I have a 99 powerstroke and i just replaced the injectors in it. I now have a problem when I shut my truck off after it is warmed up it wont start again until cooled down. To get it started when it is warm I have to give it a hit of either. Anyone have any ideas. Im in some desperate need of some help.

IPR or IPC could be going bad. Wait. you said you just had them replaced, how long ago(in miles). if under 150 miles then you may not have worked all the air out of the system yet. if it has been over that then it may be a bad IPR and the HPOP is leaking down.

NO MORE ETHER. WD40 is a safer alternative

It prolly has been about 250 miles. The thing that gets me is that I never had any trouble out of this thing besides the injectors and then this problem immediately after I installed the injectors I have this problem. The truck runs fine other than not starting when hot. Im not diesel smart at all Im just trying to feel my way through this thing. Do you feel pretty strongly on the HPOP?

The HPOP itself? No. One of the related pieces? Yes.
HPOPs are very stout pieces of machinery, and according to some of the big oil builders show no appreceable wear even with high mileage. But that is not to say that the IPR , or the anti drain back valve may not be broken.

look here, and download the HPOP technicians guide (bottom of page) http://www.forddoctorsdts.com/articl...icle-06-08.php

read it through and it may shed some light on your warm start.

You motst likely nicked an O ring or two during installation ...With the valve covers off look to see if oil is spilling evenly from each injector Or if it is spewing from the base of the injector ...You will need to make sure the engine is hot during the test ....

If it is starting good cold, running good and just not starting when hot, I doubt the HPOP or any of its related parts are the problem. Tell us a little be more about what happens when you try to start it when hot.

When I leave for work in the morning it startes just fine and runs good all the way to work which is an hour away but occasionally when I come up to a stop light it will idle about 12 or 1300rpm then calm down to about 6 or 700rpm. When I get to work I can shut it off and as soon as I turn it off and go to start it again it will just crank and crank until to give it s shot of ether or wait till it cools down.

you can check the oil level in the Hpop. there is a hex screw in the top right of the resevoir. I used my oil dipstick in there and it was empty so I added half a quart oil then it fired right up

well after I got my CPS replaced, it still does it. so any suggestions would be helpful.

HPOP? where do you check for oil? and where do you fill it up?
what oil do you use?

what I Dont get, its when I try to turn it over, its does NOTHING, everything goes off shall say. no cranking and all lights dim as if it were going to start. so I wait will it cools off then it will start.
just confused

Up-date, I checked the HPOP level and looked good to me, so still curious on what else to check if its starts fine cold, but some times warm it wont even crack. like power isnt' getting to the starter.

This sounds like an intermittent electrical issue to me. An oil issue would not stop the motor from cranking altogether. It could keep the motor from firing but not prevent cranking.

Dollars to Donuts you have an electrical issue. Have you checked the battery connection? Leads to the starter? Ground? Check these connections for any corrosion. If you find corrosion clean them up with wire brush, H2O, and baking soda.

a starter that is getting puny will sometimes turn slower when hot and sometimes not at all

ad there is more compression on a warm or hot engine

what shape are your batteries in

What porblems were you having before you changed the injectors?

I'm leaning towards a oil issue too. Whether its the IPR, or a nicked o-ring or something else. Somewhere you have a pressure problem in the system.

I read your first post about dirt in the injectors, but what were your symptoms then? Was the truck doing the same thing before you replaced them?
