Upgrades

I just bought this truck last week and am having the tranny rebuilt. they are doing better than stock and putting in a triple something torque converter. rebuild is 1800 dollars. my question is.........how can I tell if this truck has has a chip or upgrades done to alter the performance.!!!!!!!!!???????????

Brainfart. Sorry. 2000 f-250 sd psd cc short bed.4x4 of course. lol 193,000 miles

Ok. The best way to know if you have a chip or tuner is to look at the PCM to see if there is a chip on it, or ask the PO if he had a tuner. But if you are stoped, and push the go pedal hard, does it take off fast? These 7.3 are not the fastest diesels around. If there are no gauges on the truck or big exhaust, different intake, you should be good a clean from chip/tuner.

what is the pcm and where is it located????? these diesels are a different breed. everthing sooms to be stock. no, it is not as quick on take off as my 91 cc 460 dually.

It is the Powertrain Control Module, or the comptuer basically. It is a steel case located inside a plastic bracket that is up above the place where your left foot normally rests when driving (behind the emergency brake. Put your keys in your pocket, locate the box (silver color) and look in the rear side that faces you, there should be a rubber or plastic plug in the back. If it's still there you probably don't have a chip.

I would also think it is stock. The PCM is the brain of your truck. It is under the emergency brake pedal, against the firewall. Looks like a black box.

I can answer that question now. it was to turn off that dern dinger. lol I found the box. had one screw in it but the cover would not come off. there was a tag on there from 11-12001 that said there had been some type of modification but all I could read was the word tamper.

Wow I never heard of that before. Did you look at the link I gave you? The reason for the keys in the pocket is not to screw up anything by turning the to on without the PCM in place.

i will not come off without removing the pcm. you need to unplug it. the plug is under the hood on the other side of the firewall. it takes a 10mm, IIRC.

Might want to take it out and check that way you know for sure- if its marked! the only other way to find out is to have someone with a good scanner check it- or the stealer.
