Livewire initial issues -- Diesel
I have the 7.3L PSD and found it funny that none of the distributors I spoke with could nail down what I was to expect for adjustable parameters, not to mention what PIDs I could see or how the canned tuning would be.
So, having had a week to use it I am a little disappointed with the canned tuning. I get overboost code (P0238) on pgms 2 and 3 (of the three included) as well as P1249. The packaging states that I am supposed to be able to clear the codes with the display. I can't. Not on the fly, not while stopped with the key on. It tells me the codes have been cleared, but clearly, the CE light still illuminates.
I can only clear the codes by reflashing the PCM again with either the stock tune or the canned ones.As far as the PIDs, I don't see EOT (engine oil temp) offered but it does have some sort of values displayed for ECT (engine coolant temp). I seriously doubt my engine coolant is at -12*F when I go to start it in the morning and then it just gets colder to -100*F after driving a while. So that PID is pretty useless. I wonder if they're working on that?
To use the other expensive features, I have to dial in huge values into the unit via the spinning wheel located on the front. For example, by single digits (1, 2, 3, 4, ....1350) I have to turn that wheel to set an alert for EGT.
It's almost a 1/2 turn of the wheel for each digit. Forget about the estimated Tq and Hp calculations because of this. It requires that I dial that wheel to indicate my truck's weight at ~7955 lbs. One lb at a time.
So I guess my question, after the ranting is this. What did I get for $729?? I only have a CAI and Exhaust system. Surely that was supposed to aid in the canned programs right?
I sent back my Edge New Evolution because of their lack of action in similar ways. I've heard really good things about SCT's tech group. The distributor who I bought it from sent me right away to SCT's tech group. I called SCT for the first time today and haven't received a returned call yet.
In SCT's defense, I feel that the canned tunes are smoother in power delivery and shift parameters so much so that I haven't even altered the user selectable parameters at all. The speed limiter is gone by default and my mileage has gotten better despite the "Winter Additives" in our fine diesel I;ve purchased lately.
In the distributor's defense, he recomended that I turn everything back to stock and get my PCM reflashed by my local dealership. I am the third owner and so I have no idea as to what may still reside in the PCM's calibration. Can a Bullydog (or other) really leave something permanent in there, even after it's been returned to stock once again?
Does anyone else have a suggestion? Am I asking for too much?
[BTW, I don't have the DRV++ or the boost tube currently on it]
Any Diesel owners out there? SCT's gas tunes and marketing is different.
