Just took her in for her 2nd oil change at 10,000 miles. A while back, the dealer had to pull the cab to replace a leaking oil return tube from the turbo. Ever since then, during regen, there'd be a strong smell of exhaust / raw diesel fuel. Well, being the lazy son-of-a that I am , I just had the dealer look at it. Turns out to have been a loose / misaligned clamp on the down pipe at the catalytic converter.
She's all buttoned up now and ready for our trip to Hoover Dam / Lake Mead this weekend.
Just got back from an 800 mile trip from San Diego to the Hoover Dam. Winds were howling Friday heading from San Bernardino towards Barstow, I only managed to eek out 8.5 MPG from San Diego to Barstow. Coming back with no wind was a different story, I averaged 10.1 MPG. I actually got 13 MPG on the computer from Barstow to I-10 (I must admit, that this section is pretty much downhill). Overall trip was 9.6 MPG, 670 miles towing and 130 miles empty. Cruise was set to 60 MPH.

I have 3,000 plus miles on mine and about the same mileage. Your post makes me ask a further question. Saw on TV that Lake Meade is expected to dry up in five years. Is it as bad as the news? I almost moved to LV because of the Lake until I found it was polluted.

Do you have a scaled weight? Can't remember if you posted that in the past. Mine is 25,350 fully loaded

Lake is down 100 ft at the mo, Rockies are at 160% of snowpack so the lake should rise this year. But if people keep moving into the Southwest and use water like they live in the tropical rainforest, then yes, Lake Mead will dry up sometime in the 2020's. The lake only holds 2x the average annual flow of the Colorado. It's simple math, you can't take out more than you put in. I've lived in the desert for 25+ years (if you can call San Diego a desert) and I do my part to conserve, irrigation on timers and drip systems, only watering when I have to, picking drought tolerant plants, etc.
The lake is not polluted (at least not in the sense of the East River in NY, not picking on the east, it's just the only polluted river I know of), it's the source of drinking water for SoCal, AZ & NV. The lake's current problem is the invasive Zebra Mussel which can clog the intakes for the power plant. What would keep me from moving to Las Vegas is the summer heat of 120!
mattebury:
Problem I:
PERCHLORATE POLLUTION: Bacteria used in cleanup
Chemical found in Colorado River water being broken down by bugs (Lake Mead)
Problem II:
All of these washes converge on the east side of town at the Las Vegas Wash, which drains to Lake Mead, the area’s primary source of drinking water. Five percent of the flow through the Las Vegas Wash into Lake Mead is from storm water; 5% is from over-irrigation, surface and groundwater; the remaining 90% is highly treated wastewater.
From experience, LV 120 is bearable compared to Macon, GA 110 last summer.

compaired to Macon at 90 I think you should have said
I think he meant to say that Macon GA at 90 is still worse then LV at 120
that would be correct.
I have done both and Georga is hotter feeling than AZ for me anyway.
besides if writers license is not allowed here, then where ?
