I just got my gauges in this weekend and was wondering what normal boost is on a stock 01? Wot I can hit 16 psi. Is this too low or normal? I had cleaned up all of the intake and intercooler boots a couple of weeks ago.
I just got done doing a run with the red wire off and I got 21 psi. I guess everything is good. I also ordered my 4" exhaust this morning and should have it on this weekend!!!
I also tried to order my DP this morning but wouldn't ya know it there closed today. I guess I'll try again Wednesday. Thanks for the help fellas!!!
You're in good shape then -- be careful with that red line off when you get the DP in. I was hitting 27-28psi, but it was surging terribly. I put the WW in which took care of it, but I still run with the red line off and get about 25-27psi.
According to my Quadzilla Commander I'm running at 22psi WOT and then it throws a code (I get a light on my dash). I'm guessing that's the overboost code. If I had the boost fooler, how high would my boost actually go, AND would the truck go faster?
I'm assuming the Quadzilla reads the boost from the PCM (MAP Sensor). If that's the case, then you won't see anything above what the boost fooler lets past it. I have the ITP Overboost Annihilator and regulates the boost to about 21 psi. The biggest problem with that is you won't see the real boost numbers when you need to the most -- when they get at or above 25 psi. BTW, once the PCM sees 25, the PCM will defuel the engine. IMHO, the electronic readers are cool to look at, but I prefer analog gauges. If you have an analog boost gauge, you connect it before the boost fooler so it sees the real deal.

Is there any way to change how the Quadzilla reads the boost to after the boost fooler? I'd like to keep my cab looking clean without all the analog gauges everywhere. The one digital gauge really looks slick.
What kind of output is the map sensor putting out that the Quadzilla is reading and interpreting into pressure? Is it voltage, current...? If it's one of them I think I could rig something like a Rosemount pressure transmitter to read the pressure and output either a voltage or mA signal.
Has anyone ever messed with anything like this before?

I have no idea. You might call them directly. Maybe the make a module for the QZ to read from just for boost. Seems like kind of a long shot, honestly. If you only need one gauge, you can mount it on the steering column and it won't be that obtrusive. I've also seen mounts the put gauges in the top left and/or right of the stock cluster. Kind of hard to visualize, but I've seen them and they actually look pretty cool that way.

Yeah, it might be a bit of a long shot. I think I might go with 3 gauges under the dash because I will be adding train horns in the near future and would like to know what kind of pressure is inside my air tank. I'm not sure what the 3rd gauge would read though.....maybe voltage? I had my alternator die on me the other day and it really would have been helpful to know what kind of voltage I was running BEFORE it completely died.

I agree -- my alt died last June, and it would've been nice to see it coming. It actually started acting up again last week, too. I noticed the battery light flash on & off a couple times. I'd really like to add water temp & oil temp as well. That's over and above the HPOP gauge & fuel pressure that I already have in the works...
