its colder than a well drillers touch hole here, 0 with _ 20 windshill, needed truck to haul a car, cycled glow plugs twice started right up, let it run 10 min went to pull out the driveway and started dying, then quit won't start, figure its gelled,, my question if i let it sit till it warms up will i have any probs starting?
If it's already gelled additive won't do you much. Get some Diesel Service 911 (comes in a red bottle). That stuff is the bomb. It will get ya going in under 30 min if its gelled up pretty good.
Usually the filter is already empty, but you will want to fill it up with the 911 stuff too. Then let her run for about 10 min to get the fuel system nice and warm.
You might be able to get the fuel warm enough via the return line in the tank. If it still runs, then I'd go the additive route. My take longer, but eventually it will work itself out.
I've never heard or anyone having Powerservice gell up. We use that stuff in everything, never any problems. Now Howes, is a different story.
Yeah, I think you add like 15 onces in the tank, and then drain the filter bowl and fill it up too. Although, if it still idles you can pry just put it in the tank.
Maybe you have a little water in the fuel? Might drain your bowl for the heck of it and see.
you shouldent have gelled even with straight #2 with additive you defently shouldent have. of course i guess fuel quality could make a differance as well. i run #2 down to about 0 degrees and eather additive or a 50/50 below that. alot of times i have #2 in my back tank and a 50/50 in my front. so i dont even have to get out and do anything
guess waters possible, i've never had nothin get up using powerservice, truck ran fine yesterday and when it started today then quit, i figured it was gelled but its just too damn cold to mess with it, it ran like it was running out of fuel then dead, i'll get some 911 and mess with it tommarrow, i got other trucks to run for now
i run additve year round so its always in there, but i had to get fuel at a different station yesterday so now i think of it, its a truck stop and i figured i was safe but maybe not.
where do you think it would ice? cause if that what it is i'm not opposed to putting my heat gun to use if i can get to it, at least i'll keep me hands warm doin it
I don't know your fuel system as well as I do the newer ones, but if I were to guess I'd say either the pickup screen in the tank or at the fuel filter housing. Unless you have an additional filter in the line someplace....that would be a natural.
I'd stay away from the heat gun idea. It's too risky in the engine compartment. If theres water in there you may have to drain the filter a couple times to get it out. Hopefully its not a servere case of it.
Most likely your it is gelled at the fpr or filter. The lines might be, but I doubt it.
I still say get the 911, and see if she will start, then put some winterized or blend of your own in there.
Plug the truck in if possible, it will eventually warm up the fuel lines that are in the block that return to the tank. (This my tank some time of course, depending on how much fuel you have in the tank)
i think that I had the same thing happen to me. did your fuel filter light come on? Mine did. Ran fine, I went thru some water when it was about 6 degrees out, then it started to get colder. I think everything froze up on me. I have it in the shop now with the heat on to try to thaw it out. Going to let it go for 48 hours or so. Atleast until this dang stor goes thru.
