Thats what i would do to. It would be a PIA to flip that swtich everytime u opend the truck. Two step processes suck lol. Anyways, i didnt kno that either NJ, I thought it was only a certain model years didnt come with the heat shield installed under the hood.

Ford stopped putting them on in 2004, so 05's and 04's do not have a light under the hood. I guess they figured this would save them money by not putting those lights in just like they how they did away with the rear center armrest cupholders, rear center air vent the glove compartment light and the courtesy light in the front doors, am I missing anything else? They wanted to profit just a bit more on an already highly profitable vehicle.

Putting a light under the hood should be an easy mod right? I'm thinking one would just need everything from the older Excursions that came with a light.

Probably some sensor or something. If I had a newer model Excursion I would just buy a kit from an older Excursion and hopefully it could just be slapped in there.

Haha what you mean? Its a GOOD thing they didn't last much longer. At the FMCO was taking off parts to save $$, we'd be lucky if a 2008 X even had doors

Easy to add!

Go to a dealer and get the underhood lite kit for a pre 04 X or superduty. You will get a lite fixture with bulb, wire harness and connector for about $20. The harness snaps right in to the pre drilled hood under the balnket. Then cut off the connector and run it to the battery. I did this on mine and it works great.

OBTW - I went to Ford and wanted to get the lite kit for my X. They actually listed a kit. The dealer told me, are you ready for this, the lite kit with required engine harness to plug the lite connector in to was $750. Yup, thats right. Saw it with my own eyes.

I made my own harness for the underhood light and hooked it into my fog light harness that I had to install to get fogs.

You can see a pic of the wire installation CLICK HERE

Had to install a underhood blanket and rubber wind shields too. There were no lights in the doors, either. Had to add them.

Added a lock switch to the rear interior quarter panel so I could lock the doors from the rear hatch like on my wifes Mountaineer.

They left too many things off of the 05's.

It annoyed me that my truck did not have the light and blanket under hood. I too bought the light unit and hooked it up. (I also added the hood blanket.) This switch has a mechanism that turns it on when the hood is tilted. It had a clip that attached it to the underside of the hood. Since I had installed fog lights too, I tied the underhood light to the fog light circuit...the parking lights need to be on for the underhood light to work.

EDIT...Housedad beat me to it...I did the same thing for wiring.

DSMMH... I assume that you are speaking about a $700 for light package? I got mine from the dealer in 2005 for around $300 if memory serves. Ebay was even cheaper.

Interesting.

I tied mine into the power feed from the battery that I installed for the fogs. It will stay on indefinately. It will not turn off when the lighting timer resets.

edit: It will turn off when the hood closes,though!!1

My 2000's hood light hasn't worked since 2002. Not the bulb either.
