Now I am not like some who will wait months on end to clean it. I have made it a practice to clean every oil change or if I am in the mood.

I've used K&N filters in all my vehicles for years... I've never had any issues with the performance, ability to filter the air, or MAF sensor problems.
When I bought the X, I added a K&N FIPK as soon as I got it home. I love the sound it makes when I throttle up! Kinda like the tri-power on my old 65 Goat. It looks cool too.
The problem most associated with the K&N has to do with cleaning and re-oiling. Most think if "some" is good, then "more" is better. In other words, they drench the filter when they re-oil, when all that is needed is the bare minimum... just enough to turn the cotton red. A little goes a long way!!!

To each his own...diesel or K&N...Many people have numerous trouble free miles with a K&N and some have had problems. I bet some diagnosed probs linked to a K&N are in error. I have 37K miles with my K&N on the X, cleaned it once already. This past weekend, I cleaned the MAF and noted no dust on the plastic surrounding the MAF. White glove test would have passed. No dust on inside of air intake = no dirt into motor. WHen you look at the difference between 50 microns and 100 microns, neither would hurt the motor. Oil from filter is not good for MAF but aside from that, use what you want...........
My clutch went bad on a new Audi...I bet the K&N did it...

For those who can spend the coin, the AFE Stage 2 is the preferred intake setup.
You can see by my sig which route I went!
