Hi everyone, This morning my mother tried to start her 2000 F-250 and it wont start and has a strange problem. I took her to work then came back and looked at it, when I push the clutch in and turn the key to ACC the instrument cluster comes on and every light in the cluster blinks, low fuel, water in fuel, battery, low oil, ABS, wait to start and check engine light blink on and off like the truck is losing power and when it does that I can hear clicking that sounds like a solenoid. I checked the batteries and both are reading 12 volts. I didnt try to turn the engine over because I didn't want to possibly break anything. If my explanation aint understandable I can make a video if yall want but I know very little about diesel's so any help would be greatly appreciated.
first thing you might want to check is all the wiring in the back passenger side of your engine compartment - Ford didn't do a very good job of protecting this so it isnt uncommon for a wire to come unplugged or possibly rub against something and break. Check this over pretty good. its a good place to start
Also check the alternator voltage while running (if you get it running again) and it should be around 14.4 volts after the glow plugs kick off ( about 1 minute or so).
Another vote on batteries. It takes a lotta juice to start these trucks when its cold out. The relay is clicking cause the voltage is dropping too low while cranking to hold it in. That means the volts arent high enough for the pcm to even fire the injectors. It requires 10 volts minimum
Sign me up also. Last month my 7.3 cranked very slowly but just as I was about to quit cranking it fired up.
I checked the battery cables and the light corrosion was so sever I had to use a grinder to cut through the bolts and get the cables disconnected. After cleaning the battery terminals, cable clamps and installing new bolts you would think I have new batteries.
