'02 F-250 7.3 Simply Stops Running

Got an interesting problem with my '02 F-250. I'll be driving and the engine will simply stop running; it simply dies. It's done this several times in the past couple of weeks. There is no indication of a problem - no shuttering, sputtering, nothing. It simply stops running. Each time it dies, I pull over and let it sit for a few minutes and then it stops right back up.

I was wondering if this is a fuel problem. I have only a quarter of a tank left. I do use a fuel additive based on the recommendation of the Ford dearlership.

Any advice would be welcome. Thanks...CHIP

cam position sensor, there should be recall on it at your dealership, call them up tell them your truck vin number and that you are calling about the cam position sensor recall verify with them but the should inspect and replace your CPS for free. You can also go to ford . com and plug your vin in there and the cps recall should show up tellling you to take it in and get it done.

if for some reason it doesn't apply, it is a 25 dollar part and a 10 minute repair with a 10 mm socket and a flathead screwdriver.

Do you have any mods to your truck? Perhaps a chip? If not, it could be a sensor. Most likely it is your CPS. You'll find A LOT of information about that on here if you do a search. Fortunately they're about $25 bucks now...

Thanks for all the feedback. I just got back from the Ford dealership. They replaced the CPS, free of charge! They think this was the problem, so I should be good to go. I really appreciate your insight.

Even though you got a new CPS, I would get an extra one and keep it in your glove box along with a 10mm socket, extension and ratchet.... Just in case.
